About Dr. Jana
If you’re looking for “reality parenting” – then you’ve come to the right place. Dr. Jana's professional experiences involve not only applying the latest in academic pediatrics, but also adding in a healthy dose of reality – resulting in what she calls “practical parenting.” While her involvement in the world of parenting and pediatrics is broadly focused on improving the lives of children and parents - whether in her pediatric practice, within her community, in the setting of early education and child care setting, or in her role as a national parenting media expert, Dr Jana’s ultimate goal is to continue to pursue new and rewarding ways to further her knowledge and extend her reach as she strives to help improve the lives of all children..
Shortly after completing her medical training, Dr. Jana became actively involved in national parenting media as a consultant for Dr. Benjamin Spock. Shortly thereafter she went on to co-found the national parenting company that bears his name. Since that time, she has become widely recognized as a national parenting expert on television, radio, and in national print outlets. She currently serves as a consultant for both academic institutions and major corporations alike.
Dr. Jana has become increasingly involved in not only working with children and their parents, with a focus on behavior and development, early literacy, injury prevention and early childhood, but also in communicating with/helping both parents and companies on a wider scale through various forms of media - becoming widely recognized as a national parenting expert on radio, television, and in print. The first book Dr. Jana co-authored with colleague Dr. Jennifer Shu, entitled Heading Home with Your Newborn; From Birth to Reality was released in the summer of 2005 (July 2005, American Academy of Pediatrics) – winning both the Parenting Book of the Year Award (2005, ForeWord magazine) and the Benjamin Franklin Award (2006) as the parenting/family issues book of the year. Their second book, Food Fights: Winning the Nutritional Challenges of Parenthood Armed with Insight, Humor and a Bottle of Ketchup (Oct 2007, AAP) deals with the everyday challenges of feeding young children and promises to help restore both peas and harmony to the family table.
